Frequently Asked Questions
    1.  I can't seem to download! -- My scores are not uploading!

People running Windows 98 SE SP2 or higher who are having problems with replication should run Microsoft's JavaX on their system. Microsoft regularly updates their Virtual Machine and rather than try to keep a current link here, please go to www.microsoft.com for it. Once the Microsoft site loads, type VM in the search box and click Go. The third selection on the page you are taken to will be "Security Update for Microsoft Virtual Machine ..." Click there and when the page comes up scroll to the bottom, click on the "Get this and other available updates ..." from there you just follow the screen prompts to update your system. You will need to restart your system before these changes will take effect ... it requires more than just a browser restart.

If you do not have the option to download your course, the virtual machine on your system is either outdated or more than one JIT compiler is active. First, follow the steps above to update your system, then check your VM settings to be sure that if you have both a Java VM and a Microsoft VM only one is active (checked).

    2.  My ID and Password Are Not Working

If your enrollment status is active and you cannot get beyond the Logon screen, check your browser to be certain that you are accepting cookies. If you run a blocking program (e.g., Add/Subtract), disable it prior to launching your browser (disabling after launching the browser will not work). For those of you who do not like accepting cookies, please understand that the cookies you will receive through your VU experience are necessary for capturing and tracking your progress. These cookies only concern themselves with your progress. They are not SpyWare cookies. Further, the cookies are never used by any program other than the VU courseware engines. All the VU servers reside behind an Ajilon firewall.

    3.  I was studying on-line and my system froze! My progress isn't showing!

When you use your courses, whether on- or off-line, you are engaged in a browser-based application. It isn't the course that freezes, it's the browser. It is a good idea to clear browser history and temporary files before each session (do NOT clear cookies). If you study on-line, exit your course after each post assessment so that your progress will be uploaded. Then take the next unit. Of course, if you have not defragmented your system in a while ... it's a good idea. Remember also, that the fewer applications you have open when you study, the better. Making as much memory available to your learning experience as possible can aid in avoiding memory contention.

    4.  How do I upload? For some reason I don't see my scores on the server!

Uploading your progress is a automatic feature of the course when you exit using the Exit button. You will be prompted to upload your progress. If you have done that and do not see your progress when you log on to VU, the reason could be that you downloaded to a location other than the root of drive C or D on your system. Please do not download to one drive and then drag to another ... this will corrupt some of the files. The download does need to be located in the root of one of these drives on your computer in order for everything to work properly.

    5.  What is a passing grade?

Students successfully completing their course work will receive a Certificate of Completion from Ajilon University. The criteria is that each Unit Assessment Test must be taken and a grade of 75% or higher must be achieved within the allowable duration (or extended) period in order to be eligible to receive a Certificate from Ajilon University. Certificates, once processed and signed by appropriate persons, will be sent via snail mail to District Offices.

    6.  I finished my course work ... why haven't I heard from you?

In order to provide quality learning materials at a low cost, we use legacy database systems that require running reports and reviewing them in order to see who has done what, when. Learning Management Systems (LMS's) can cost $750,000 or more when fully customized. If you do not tell us when you have completed something, you completion will not be discovered until your account appears on the Past Due report. Please let us know when you have completed your course so that we may process your completion documents quickly. Or, in the unusual event that your progress has not been posted, so that we can work with you to determine the cause of the problem and help you fix it.

    7.  It takes forever to download!

Try downloading just one unit of a course at a time if your connection is slow. This will not only take less time, it will minimize the risk of an ISP disconnect during the last few seconds of a long download. Downloading just one unit at a time will also allow you to download the audio component!

    8.  Which tests do I have to take?

Pre-Assessment tests only count toward your GPA if you pass them and elect not to take the corresponding Post Assessment. Pre-Assessments are a time-saver if you know some of the materials in the topic you are studying and want to take a faster track to the materials you need to concentrate on. My rule of thumb ... if you are unfamiliar with the topic just skip the pre-assessment tests. They'll only confirm that you need to study.

    9.  The system does not show that I have completed ... I've taken all the tests ... what do I do now?

Please just send us a message when you have finished and we will gladly set the completion flag on the server. We've removed the option to tell the application that the course has been completed during the exit process ... it was just too confusing and many of you wanted to repeat tests. It's no trouble at all ... just send a message to VUCampus@ACLabs.com ... we'll help.

    10.  The course keeps starting me at the wrong place!

Sometimes it is easier to use the course map than to let the course decide where you should begin. To access the course map, you need to have the course open on your screen. If you are taking a personal development or business development course, there will be a compass icon on the course screen. If you are taking a technical course, use the View menu on the course screen. Select Course Map. A list of the topics in your course will appear with either a plus symbol or an arrowhead to the left of the text. Clicking on the symbol will expand the topic ... select your starting point by clicking on the text.
